Ask Flygirl: Spring and summer flings

Q: I’ve been thinking about having a summer fling, but I don’t think I want anything serious or long-term. How do I keep this a summer thing? – Down for Summer Fun

Down for Summer Fun,

We feel you. The weather’s getting warmer, the rain is finally letting up, and you’re probably feeling like dusting off your Tinder. Or Bumble. Or Her. Go for it! We’re always down for a little harmless fun under the sun.

Use your arsenal of apps, go out to coffee shops, check out the bevy of queer events that are popping up around the city, or just organize some hangs with friends (it still amazes us how many people have met people through friends of friends). You just never know how you’re going to meet someone.

If you know that you’re looking for something not-serious (for example temporary or non-monogamous), just make sure the other person knows. No one likes having expectations and then realizing the other person isn’t on the same page. It’s a shitty feeling—and Shane-ing around is so 2005. Also, who knows. It just might turn into a summer fling that extends into autumn… or even winter.

Be safe and have fun!

FG
