Chicas Moves to Queen E Plaza.

Posted by Mandy Randhawa on June 26, 2011

In characteristic Flygirl style, Chicas, the much-anticipated Pride weekend outdoor party has found an exceptional new home – the recently renovated Queen Elizabeth Plaza in front of the Queen Elizabeth Theatre (QET) in downtown Vancouver.

When the QET opened in 1959, Vancouverites boasted that it ‘lifted the city into the realm of urban sophistication.’ On Sunday, July 31st, 2011, history will be made on the premises once again, this time outdoors on the Queen Elizabeth Plaza. Chicas will be the first gay event ever to take place at the QE, and the most spectacular party the grounds have ever seen. Mandy Randhawa, Flygirl’s ‘Make it Happen Conductor,’ puts it best, “Hosting a Flygirl event will lift the Queen E into an even worldlier realm of urban sophistication.”

Every year Flygirl turns it up a notch and makes their exceptional lesbian events even more spectacular than the year before. With awesome new venues and fabulous performance line-up, 2011 is going to be the most deluxe year yet.

The Chicas party on Pride afternoon is always hot-hot-hot – and that’s regardless of how warm the weather is. This is the legendary party girl event of the year. Leigh Cousins, Flygirl’s ‘Chief Party Composer’ explains, “We are transforming the QET’s outdoor plaza into a garden of delight and a delectable dance mecca, with stellar DJ geniuses and other live entertainment, decorated tents, and a modern lounge with decadent decor. Come from the parade for some fun and flirty summer evening delights.”

The Queen Elizabeth Plaza is a city landmark in the heart of downtown Vancouver at 650 Hamilton St. (@ West Georgia). Walk, run skip or bike over from the parade. And if you have to drive, there’s plenty of parking nearby.

All Pride tickets will go on sale Fri July 1.
