CHICKS AHOY! BOAT CRUISE – MV Queen of Diamonds (1601 Bayshore Drive., Coal Harbour, across from Westin Bayshore Marina)
Same time (boarding at 7pm), same place (in front of Westin Bayshore Hotel), and same route up gorgeous Indian Arm, but there has been a change to the vessel for the Chicks Ahoy boat cruise.
We are now going to be cruising on the MV Queen of Diamonds, our beloved vessel from 2010. “The Queen” is a beautifully designed, 135 foot, 3-tiered Miami-style ship with five clean and well-serviced washrooms. We will transform the open-air sundeck into a tented party space, and DJs Riki Rocket & Kasey Riot will set the dance floor into orbit while we take a starlight tour through Indian Arm.
Included in the tix price is the onboard menu that features various delectable noodle dishes and Caesar salad. And don’t forget, when we return to dock, we invite you to finish the night at our “Sweet Fridays” party at the Post Modern dance bar, admission on us.
Why the change? Magic Yacht Charters, the owners of the casino boat we were booked to cruise on, told us in May they had all the certifications they required. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case, and they haven’t been able to get their Transport Canada certification in time.

CHICAS @ Coast Plaza Hotel Rooftop Patios (Coast Plaza Hotel 1763 Comox St @ Nelson)
Anyone who was there in 2010 will remember how Chicas blew the roof (or at least the rooftop garden) off the West End. Buoyed with pride at the excitement for the event, we approached the Coast Plaza Hotel about holding our Pride afternoon party, Chicas, there once again and they excitedly accepted.
This Thursday (July 26), City of Vancouver officials informed us that due to neighbours’ noise complaints in 2010, and in order to meet sound and safety regulations, the City will allow only 120 people on the patio at a time.
While we were disappointed at the news and dismayed by the short notice, we’ve managed to re-envision the layout. We’re moving the outdoor stage indoors, and turning the outdoor patio into a delightful retreat.
We will have the two DJ rooms, featuring DJs: Alyson Calagna (Miami, NY), Amara, Soulfunkee, and Veronica; a live stage featuring the incredible chanteuse Colleen Rennison with Eric Campbell of No Sinner, as well as the gorgeous flamenco troupe, Pedro Mole and Company; and now we’ll have a gorgeous garden to cuddle and cavort in between rounds of shaking it on the dance floors.
It’s not the vision we started with, but we’re working to make it a vision to behold. And with that musical line up, it’s bound to be another wild, wonder-filled and unforgettable afternoon.
SWEET FRIDAY: PRIDE KICK-OFF and HERSHE BAR remain as planned.
We look forward to celebrating Pride with you!
